About Us

The Botswana Pensions Society is a non-profit making organization registered in 1994 with an objective to promote retirement planning to members of retirement funds and by extension to the general public. It is managed by a Management Committee comprising of technically skilled representatives of Industry stakeholders engaged in the management of retirement funds. The Secretariat of the Society is administered by Distinct Business (Pty) Ltd. Our membership comprises of retirement funds, administrators, asset managers, consultants, actuarial and audit firms as well as specialists who offer industry-based expertise.

In 2008 the Committee decided the Conference- held annually- provided inadequate exposure to the growth of industry knowledge and resolved to increase the activities of the Society to further its objectives of providing retirement planning knowledge to their broad and varying membership. To this end, the member awareness and trustee seminar were added to the Society’s annual calendar of events.

Member Awareness Seminars

This event was introduced having taken into account the limited general pensions knowledge available to people outside Gaborone. Members of participating retirement funds were targeted and provided with generic information on the operations and legislative framework of retirement planning in Botswana. The Member Awareness Seminars are held twice annually in remote areas and are fully funded by the Society. To date they have been held in Francistown, Ghanzi, Maun, Gaborone, Palapye, Selebi-Phikwe, Tsabong, Kang, and Hukuntsi.

The Topical Trustee Seminars

This highly technical event provides our trustees with factual and up-to-date information on issues of topical concern to their industry to ensure a compliant industry. Local and regional specialists are engaged to train the Trustees.

Annual Conferences

This event remains the highlight of the industry where retirement fund trustees and sponsors engage with service providers. Participation of service providers is secured through sponsorship, which in turn allows them to present on topics of their expertise and gain the trust of the Trustees and other decision makers.

Those attending the conference are treated to a wide variety of information and strategies on the tools necessary for the effective management of occupational schemes and personal retirement portfolios.
